Goals

Circo Inzir is a Circus Theatre project, born from the common desire of a diverse collective of artists to bring performances, parades and workshops to areas of the world where life is complicated by poverty, war and exploitation. The main objective is to spread this art, using it as a bridge to find unity and exchange among different cultures, using differences to strengthen bonds and promote multiculturalism.

How it works

The circus is the means of communication, unity, and sharing through which "Inzir" has chosen to speak. Due to its multidisciplinary characteristics, diverse expressive possibilities, and simplicity, this art form seems to be the perfect medium for a type of human exchange based on empathy and diversity as a meeting point. The project is divided into two phases: the performances, promoted and performed by the artists themselves here in Italy, serve the dual purpose of funding future projects and showcasing our work and the realities we have encountered along our journey. Thanks to these, we can then organize our tour and travel to places that we believe will benefit the most, triggering that communication mechanism that is so dear to us. Wonder, laughter, and risk unite us as human beings, transcending languages, ages, and social backgrounds. The circus can be done anywhere, the circus can be for anyone because it's made by people for people.

OUR STORY

In 2011, fueled by the enthusiasm of one of our founding members who had visited refugee camps, we came together as a collective in Bologna, calling ourselves Circo InZir, which translates to "circus on the move" in the local dialect. Our first "caravan" set off in February 2012, heading for the Sahrawi refugee camps. Encouraged by the enthusiasm our show sparked in the communities we encountered, we decided to continue the project by performing again in Guatemala and Mexico in 2014. Growing even more galvanized, we ventured to Ethiopia in 2016, followed by a tour of Southeast Asia in 2018 (Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand). Not yet satisfied, we are about to set off again to return to Cambodia, a country we believe is in need of laughter as much as it is of air. We believed before we set out, and have been confirmed since, that street theater is one of the best ways to reach anywhere, precisely because of its remarkable ability to relate to the most diverse contexts, situations, and realities. Circo InZir is approaching its tenth anniversary, and we are more energized and motivated than ever. Thanks to the continuous addition of new elements bringing their experience and diversity, we continue to enrich ourselves, enriching our nature by choice, mutable and resilient! Always open to change, always open to contamination, and always open to inclusion, we are confident that by continuing in this way, Circo InZir will celebrate at least twenty years.

We

  • Who knows why border towns leave in me the memory of dusty roads, a memory of half-closed eyes, of chairs and gazes that follow indifferently as you cross.

  • Drebe and Edriss are our new travelling companions, driver and helper respectively. Immediately, as if it were their nom de guerre, we name them Birba and Botta.

  • We realise immediately that Pak Beng is a village with a bizarre characteristic, as it only experiences waves of tourism from 6pm, the time when the slow boat docks...

Cabaret

Travel is one of the phases in which the project lives, feeds, and grows. When we're not preparing the cabaret under the scorching sun in an unspecified corner of the world, we perform in Italy, invited to festivals, friendly tents, and theatrical events, doing the same thing we've learned to do on our journeys: creating connections, and human relationships. If you like our philosophy and what we do, one way to support us in our new expeditions is to host a performance. If you have a space and are interested, please contact us.

How to describe CirCo InZir Gran Varietè? How to describe a show that is never the same? A show always performed by different people, created and adapted each time based on the context of the place that hosts it. A show that, despite this, always succeeds in its aim to surprise and entertain? There are two ways to understand what CirCo InZir Gran Varietè is about: one is to see it, and the other is to be a part of it! So if you're curious, give us a call, because deep down, we are too!

T-shirts

Travel is also made of memories and stories, like this one: A friend gave us some prints a while ago, and they were beautiful! We thought it would be a shame to keep this gift to ourselves, so we printed them on T-shirts. This way, after seeing our cabaret, the audience can take home a tangible and, most importantly, USEFUL memory of CIRCO INZIR and ERICAILCANE. Thanks, Leo...

To make things more complicated, we decided to print the T-shirts in five colors, with three different designs, in four different sizes with both female and male models: So you can choose from 120 models! Plus, if you want, we can also ship them to your home, but the shipping costs are on you! Write to Gaia (gaiacafaggi@hotmail.it) specifying in the subject: "CIRCO INZIR T-SHIRTS" ... easy, right? Shipping costs are at your expense.

  • The background noise is cars and trucks. Silence is precious gold that no one thinks to look for any more.

  • Our plan is simple: since the train takes 14 hours to arrive we take it in the evening, travel at night, sleep on the train and arrive in the morning refreshed, easy no? Definitely not!
